USS Eisenhower - memorabilia
- Roderick Hennesey served on the USS Eisenhower during the start
of Desert Shield. The ship had several problems, including a run in with a Iraqi helicopter that sprayed the ship. Rod said the M-256 kit
tested positive for a chem / bio attack. No one followed up.
-
Anyways, Rod had a few photos he wanted to show off. In his own words he says:
-
- This Mk 5 pictured was the extent of any CBR
personal defense we had. To make it worse, those cannisters
installed, I had no idea how old they were. I never received fresh
ones. After three weeks on station, we received the new MCU-2P
gas masks, Atropine and 2-Pan
Chloride auto-injectors,
and CBR suits. Quite literally we were against a known chemical
capable foe with our pants down and exposed.
-
- Hopefully some of the other sick vets of the Ike will come forward
- soon with some of their own stories.
